Les Témoins (The Witnesses)
The Witnesses holds up very well during its first half. It's fast paced and to the point, even though there's nothing remotely 80s about the hairstyles, clothes and interior decorating choices of any character ... [more]

Interview with Tomer Heymann
I'm in a significant relationship over a year with a charming guy I met at one of the festivals abroad; it's a beautiful love that crosses oceans ... [more]

Interview With Matthew Rush (Greg Grove)
I was told that Black Inches wouldn't print a layout of me because I wasn't black enough. That is the only time that I've ever been discriminated against. Being biracial has definitely been a big help because I'm not the typical blond haired, blue eyed boy next door ... [more]

The History Boys
Elsewhere, a new male teacher immediately falls desperately and rather lecherously in love with the dark-eyed cad of the class while at the drop of a hat, any two boys will jump to the front of the class and campily act out scenes from Now, Voyager and Brief Encounter. Just like your high school, right? ... [more]

Blades of Glory
What powers the movie are the gross-out gags--approach the revelation of the ultimate skating move, the Iron Lotus, with caution!--and the scenes in which each man learns to overcome his revulsion to touching/being touched by another dude ... [more]

HellBent
HellBent is, however, a very enjoyable movie and inadvertently historical. What would the gay activists who blockaded the set of Cruising say if they were around to see a gay killer stalk and carve up gay guys in a film made by a gay director, for a largely gay audience ... [more]

Männer Wie Wir (Balls/Guys & Balls)

Breakfast on Pluto
With his unearthly face—high, razor-sharp cheekbones that frame irradiated blue eyes—Cillian Murphy makes a mysterious and transfixing object. A more down-to-earth actor would sentimentalize Breakfast on Pluto and make for an awkward fit with its peculiar mix of tones ... [more]

Running With Scissors
Pitched for two hours at the histrionic pitch of Magnolia's Aimee Mann Super Montage, this is among the most loathsome films of the year, something of a Hollywood facsimile of Tideland, only Terry Gilliam's gothic upchuck was not so dense as to make any pretense to reality. If it came with a label it might read: 100% Snigger, From Concentrate. [more]

Buck Angel
You cannot deny that I am all man. And when I have sex with a man it is obviously man-on-man action but I would never fail to tell anyone before we got home that I am a man with a pussy.
That is not cool at all. If a guy comes home with me thinking he is gonna suck my cock and sees my pussy, what do you think he is gonna do? He will probably freak out. Then the whole night is ruined. [more]

Jack Malebranche
Even the most effeminate gay males share this experience of maleness with other males, and the example of sex drive illustrates how very male they typically are. I don't believe that most homosexual males are truly 'hermaphrodites of the soul,' an offensive notion popularized in the 19th century by the earliest homosexual advocates and one that is still far too pervasive among homos today ... Notes on a Scandal
This deliciously titillating plotline, from the novel by Zoe Heller, could have been a trashy season-long story thread of Eastenders but Notes on a Scandal is a sophisticated, superlative film which treats us to two of the greatest film actresses slugging it out in one well written, dazzling acted scene after the next.

Broken Sky
I agree with Salma Hayek, who exclaimed "so many Mexicans!" while announcing the nominations for the 2007 Oscars ceremony, that the past twelve months have featured a bounty of great Mexican films. Babel and Pan's Labyrinth won deserved acclaim, and the lesser-known Broken Sky, while not in the league of those two other films, was one of the highlights of the gay film year.

Powertool
Stryker looks great in the opening scene, where he stares down the judge dressed in jeans and a skin tight sleeveless black top. But when he first strips - for inspection before being issued with his prison denims - it's a let down.

Paper Dolls
Israel closed its borders to Palestinian workers after the rise of the second intifada in 2000, and immediately sought itinerant workers from other countries. Paper Dolls documents a group of pre-op Filipino transexuals who moved to Israel to work as carers for elderly and infirm othodox Jews.

Rohtenburg (Grimm Love)
Excessively cock-hungry Armin Meiwes is currently in a German jail for biting and cutting off Bernd Brandes' penis, frying it and serving it as a light meal for the both of them, before slaughtering Brandes, carving his body into choice cuts and storing them in the fridge.
