Aims and Objectives

Outrate.net exists so that people who want an alternative commentary related to gay cinephilia, can have one

Outrate.net was launched in April 2003 with the aim of providing an alternative media space for the critical consideration of gay-themed cinema and gay cinema spectatorship.

Outrate.net rejects the Vito Russo doctrine: gay liberationist activism in the form of gay film criticism. Instead of grading films on how they represent gay identities, outrate.net grades films on their merits as films.

Crap films, regardless of how sweet and fabulous their gay characters and/or storylines may be, are criticized, while better films, regardless of whether or not they promote positive gay role models, are praised.

Outrate also commentates on the gay cultural response to gay-themed films.

METHODS
Outrate.net has three main sections: film reviews, interviews, and features. outrate.net pursues its aims and objectives by critically reviewing gay-themed films, talking with people about gay cinema spectatorship, and detailed essays that explore related ideas.

ADVERTISING
Some of our visitors have commented that they are uncomfortable with the porn ads. We have no objection to featuring these ads, since we feel that anyone who finds their way to a gay-themed site shouldn't really be too rattled by a picture of two men fucking.

We depend on our porn affiliate programs to support our operating costs, since the non-porn affiliate programs we tried simply didn't produce any revenue.

We are, however, open to advertisements of any kind and have recently commenced a BlogAds program, and you can take out such an ad by clicking here.
